More InfoThe climate crisis will wipe out millions of jobs long before the feared robots do. The international community has recognized that the green transition must be designed on the basis of “the imperatives of a just transition of the workforce, and the creation of decent work and quality jobs” (Paris Accord, 2016). The Job Guarantee proposal has been embraced by climate movements such as the U.S. Sunrise Movement and the Global Democratizing Work initiative. The proposal has informed the work of policy makers in the EU, UN, ILO and others. This talk will discuss why the Job Guarantee is crucial to the twin objectives of climate and economic justice and will discuss why and how the proposal extends beyond the aim of creating green jobs. Crucially, it provides the economic foundation from which to build solutions to the various economic challenges before us.
