Tamar Khitarishvili is a research associate in the Gender Equality and the Economy program whose research interests include gender economics, the economics of time use, human capital and economic development, and the economics of transition countries. She currently serves as Program Evaluation Lead at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH). She previously taught economics at Bard College and at Carleton College. She is a contributor to the gender chapter of the 2016 UNDP Regional Human Development Report for Europe and Central Asia. Khitarishvili’s recent publications include “The Great Recession and Unpaid Work Time in the United States—Does Poverty Matter?” (with K. Kim), Electronic International Journal of Time Use Research, Vol. 12, No. 1 (2015); and “The Economic Crisis of 2008 and the Added Worker Effect in Transition Countries,” in R. Antonopoulos, ed., Gender Perspectives and Gender Impacts of the Global Economic Crisis (Routledge, 2013). She holds a BS from the University of Georgia, Athens, and an MS and a Ph.D. in applied economics from the University of Minnesota.
