Thorvald Grung Moe is a special adviser at Norges Bank, the central bank of Norway, where he has worked since 1985. He has held a wide range of positions there, covering topics such as exchange control, financial stability, monetary policy, payment systems policy, and strategic planning. He formerly served as department director in the Financial Stability wing and represented the central bank at the board of the Financial Supervisory Authority of Norway. He was also an observer at the Committee of European Banking Supervisors. Before joining Norges Bank, Moe worked at the World Bank and the Norwegian Ministry of Finance. He has consulted widely with the International Monetary Fund in the Middle East, Latin America, and Eastern Europe. He has published books and articles on banking regulation, cross-border banking, and the financial crisis. His recent research is focused on central bank independence, lender-of-last-resort policies, shadow banking, and the interface between financial stability and monetary policy.
